Susanne Yi-Jia Hou, violin with Daniel Spiegel, piano

Recently returning from Tokyo where she performed Sibelius' Violin
Concerto in D minor with one of Japan’s most prestigious symphonies, the
NHK Symphony Orchestra, violinist Susanne Hou is becoming a prominent
performer on the international concert stage. Recent concerts also
include a Shanghai performance with the London Symphony in the presence
of 10,000 audience members. As well as garnering much attention on the
international scene Ms. Hou’s reputation continues to develop in Canada
with an upcoming concerto performance with the Winnipeg Symphony in
February 2006. In 2003 Susanne was awarded first place and the use of
the multi-million dollar Guarneri del Gesu violin from The Canada
Council – Musical Instrument Bank. This award adds to an impressive list
of competition prizes. She has already captured Gold Medals at three
international violin competitions: the Jacques Thibaud (France 1999),
Rodolfo Lipizer (Italy 1999), and Pablo Sarasate (Spain 1997).
Susanne Yi-Jia Hou is represented by Andrew Kwan Artists Management Inc.
Pianist Daniel Spiegel has won numerous competitions and awards and is
currently completing his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at
the Juilliard School. Mr. Spiegel has appeared recently in recitals at
the German and Icelandic Embassies and at the Sulgrave Club and Arts
Club of Washington. This November, he will perform in the Weill Recital
Hall at Carnegie Hall. Other upcoming engagements include debuts at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre Auditorium. Mr. Spiegel also
performs extensively as a collaborative artist with both
instrumentalists and vocalists.
Ms. Hou, accompanied by pianist Daniel Spiegel will be performing works
by Tartini, Debussy, Faure, Ernst, Paganini, Tang, de Falla and
Wieniawski.

Guy Few is a virtuoso. As a powerful pianist and astonishing trumpeter,
he delights his audiences with his intensity and charm. Montreal’s Le
Devoir calls him "outrageously gifted" and "quite simply phenomenal". It
is no wonder that he is in demand as a soloist and has played with many
orchestras in Canada and the USA. Guy has won innumerable prizes for
piano and trumpet performance. He performs and records on a regular
basis and has appeared on CBC, CTV, Bravo, TV5 and European television
broadcasts and is heard regularly on the CBC and American Public Radio.
In 1988 he received the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award from the Canada
Council of the Arts when he was chosen as Most Promising Artist in both
piano and brass categories. He has been invited as a professor,
adjudicator, soloist, principal or recitalist to many festivals
including the Festival of the Sound, Scotiafest, the Orford Festival,
the Kiwanis National Music Festival, the New Brunswick Summer Music
Festival, the Ottawa Chamber Festival, the Elora Festival, Tanglewood
(USA), Takefu International Music Festival (Japan), and the Oregon Bach
Festival (USA). Born in Saskatoon,Saskatchewan, Guy is a gold medal
graduate of Wilfrid Laurier Unversity, Waterloo, Ontario and holds a
Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College, London,England.
Canadian pianist, Stephanie Mara, is a collaborative pianist and coach
and has performed in recital and gala presentations with many vocalists
and instrumentalists in numerous festival and series performances. She
is a collaborative pianist and coach for Wilfrid Laurier University
where she assists performance majors in brass, bassoon and cello.
Guy Few and Stephanie Mara’s concerts will include a variety of works
for trumpet and piano, voice and piano, and four-hands piano.

Fubuki Daiko, taiko drumming

Audiences everywhere are energized by Fubuki Daiko’s high-powered style
of Japanese drumming. Members Hiroshi Koshiyama, Naomi Guilbert, Bruce
Robertson and Kimi Guilbert present an unforgettable concert that is
part martial arts athleticism, part dance, and all rhythm. Their
repertoire of both hard driving rhythms and soft subtle musical pieces
transcends musical boundaries and appeals to people of all ages,
background and tastes. Their North American roots are combined with
their four-year apprenticeship under Taiko (Big Drum) Grandmaster
Seiichi Tanaka, and they have created a phenomenon that is truly
unforgettable. Fubuki Daiko’s unforgettable shows, which combine
precision percussion and graceful athleticism, are dazzling displays of
strength, stamina and heartfelt rhythmic spirit. Audience and performers
are merged and unified in a highly exhilarating, uniquely participatory
experience.
Fubuki Daiko perform an almost exclusively original programme that
upholds the spirit and style of their training.
